Jeffery Gitomer during his crowded seminars uses to claim that he never needed to look for clients because clients called him wanting his help
We can be skeptic about it although at present Gitomer’s reputation is so affirmed that he could surf the crisis without any particular concern. When I met him last November in Seattle he told me that he had in mind to come to Italy for a seminar. I confess: I took it as the typical American bragging. Everyone I met in the States, managers and waiters, when they discover I came from Italy uses to tell me how much he/she loves Italy and has planned to come and visit the country. This was not the case since Gitomer came in spring in Italy and talked in front of several hundred people. He is honest and consistent!
Thus when he describes the strategy he followed to reach the top, better listen to him! So take a look at this video. His trick is quite simple: Give, and it will be given to you.
Using the famous Kennedy’s sentence we can therefore say: “ask not what your clients can do for you - ask what you can do for your clients”. Actually clients is not the right word, because you can also do something for your suppliers, your colleagues, your potential clients, your prospects, or for the people around you. Everyone that can provide you a good referral. In fact why they should help us? Why they should even bother about us?
Without giving value first –info, ideas, clues, suggestions- it’s very difficult to get one’s help!
What can we do for our clients or for everyone else so that they will desire to help us when we will ask them their support?
