English version

The backbone of the Italian industry is mainly composed of very small companies, usually family owned, with a strong attitude to tradition. Just to give an idea of this means you have to consider that  we have more than 4,4 million companies in Italy and that 98,2% of them are composed by less than 50 people. And this figures are much incredible if you go down to companies composed by less than 10 people (94,9%) and if you consider one man bands (58,2%). Large companies with more than 250 workers represent only the 0,1 % of the total!
Cristina Mariani’s suggestions are addressed to the SME world. Her low cost clues offer smart and sharp methodologies to improve the perception and the sales. She wrote her first book in 2009, Marketing low cost, and she just published her second text focused on communication. She is also the author of a very intriguing blog.

We started asking her why she decided to go online with her blog
"The blog was born together with my first book. My intention was to create a dialogue with the readers and interact with them. I have to confess that I’m very happy with the results, both in terms of visitors and rating (my blog occupies the first places in the tops of Italian marketing blogs) than in terms of the quality of the interactions. I believe that establishing a relations with my readers is a wonderful opportunity to enrich and provoke me".

Which have been the benefits coming from your presence on the net?
"First of all a better visibility for my consultant and trainer activity, to which I have now added also a journalist career. Then more clues for improving my know how. And last but not the least new clients. The blog is also a way of demonstrating my competencies, my business writing capability and a place for my personal training in these difficult activities. My principal goal though is to provide a useful service, providing information and clues to my readers, who invest their precious time visiting my blog. One of them is an unknown Piedmonts reader who visited my blog 1400 times this year and another one uses to spend at least 30 minutes every day!"

Which have been the topics that the reader liked the most?
"I can’t make a rating: free download could be the top ones, also thanks to Twitter and Facebook where they can easily be promoted".

In your new book you specifically talk about communication: which can be your suggestions about an on-line strategy?
"You have to set clear goals: which is your target? Whom you want to talk to? You need to find out an answer to these questions and write down your ideal client-profile to plan your strategy: you could get better results with Facebook or with a blog or even no results at all, if your targeted client is not going on line to get information".

How an on-line presence can improve sales?
For some business, the Net is the best possible channel: it’s the way that some niche-business can find visibility and new clients. A friend of mine who is an e-commerce expert, told me that you can sell on-line stuff that I could not even consider! Anyway, before buying everyone usually check on line the website of the seller or google him to find out who he is and his reputation. You can also check Twitter and more specific search-engine to see what people thinks about a company. Therefore I would suggest to consider the on-line strategy as a way to control and try to influence one own on-line reputation.
