I’ve spent my last week in Tel Aviv at Goldratt House, HQ of the famous Goldratt Consulting, to improve my knowledge of Theory of Constraints, the only holistic approach that promise, and maintain, a growth around 400% of net profit per year. It has been a wonderful week full of clues and insight and I had the chance to meet also dr. Eli Goldratt himself.. I’d like to share with you some of them, ready to discuss it further following your personal interests. Ready carefully these packed sentence and squeeze all the wisdom inside them: there is a mine inside each of them that can be exploited to increase our sales.

  1. Constraint: everything that prevent the system from achieving more of its goal.
  2. Number 1 constraint of  present companies is management attention due to (obsessive) multitasking
  3. Focus means: do what you have to do & don’t do what you don’t have to do
  4. Don’t give answers better provide solutions
  5. The sun of global optima produces healthy shadows, the lamps of local optima generate costly darkness.
  6. Any time and money spent to improve non-constraints is a waste of time and money.
  7. Most of the conflicts are generated by fires, that means the difference between authority and responsibility.
  8. To increase your competitive edge look two steps away: what are the need of your clients’ clients?
  9. The main priority of companies is to remove the obstacles that slow down the flow.
  10. Any resistance to change, and thus negotiation, presents three main layers: disagreement on what to change, disagreement to what to change to, disagreement on how to cause the change.
  11. Don’t compromise: look for the false underlying assumption to evaporate the conflict.
  12. Sky is the limit if root cause is the foundation.
  13. Don’t fall in love with your ideas if you look for the truth.
  14. Huge dainty can be swallowed only when cut in small mouthful.
  15. It’s because the client is his way that we can’t do it or because we give up doing it that the client end up that way?
  16. Never charge clients if they don’t receive or perceive any value.
  17. Cutting costs is the exact opposite of loyalty:  or you squeeze supplier or you lay-off people.
  18. The job of consultancy, and any salesman is a consultant, is promote and ease the change.

Now, what do you think about?
